Philip holds a PhD in biochemistry and is Head of our biotechnology practice.

Philip’s technical expertise includes biotechnological, biological and chemical areas, including antibodies, antibody variants, cell lines, formulations, medical uses and small molecule chemistry. Philip has extensive experience at oral proceedings before the Opposition Division and Appeal Board at the European Patent Office.

Before joining the firm in 2010, Philip worked for the Pharmaceutical Company, AstraZeneca, including providing patent support to the MedImmune division, having entered the patent profession in 1997. Prior to this he conducted postdoctoral research at Birmingham University in the laboratory of Professor Bob Michel FRS.

Philip is a member of the CIPA Life Sciences Committee and lectures on European Patent Office practice for the CIPA Patents Administrators course. Philip is a co-editor of the European Patents Handbook.
