Mike is involved with a variety of patent work covering subject areas including chemistry, diagnostic equipment and mechanics. Mike also has a large portfolio of both trade mark and design work.
Mike began training in the summer of 2006, under the guidance of Bob Pidgeon, to become a Patent and Trade Mark Attorney. He holds a first class Chemistry degree from Oxford, and a PhD in synthetic organic chemistry, which involved work with nucleic and amino acids to study the origins of life. Afterwards, Mike worked for Sigma-Aldrich’s fine chemicals division on drug development programmes for many clients in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, so fully understands the realities of lab work and how to efficiently gather relevant material for a valuable patent.
In 2007 Mike passed the Manchester University Certificate in Intellectual Property Law with Distinction, and won the AstraZeneca Prize for the highest aggregate marks. Mike also won the Michael Jones Prize for the highest mark in a UK patent finals paper of November 2008.
